How to reduce allergy symptoms at home

Your home can trap the allergens, but you’re not powerless against the fight against watery eyes and runny nose. Here is a simple guide on how to reduce allergy symptoms in the home.

Add air filters

If you spend a significant amount of time inside, the pollutants can aggregate the conditions. To be on the safe side, you should buy an air purifier to reduce the symptoms. But first, you should focus on the type of pollutants you want to eliminate.

If you want to remove, dust, pollen, dander, or mold, you should go for UV or HEPA air filters. Before you make your investment, you should check the amount of space in your room.

Even if you’re looking for a unit to fit a single room, make sure you confirm the clean air delivery rate (CAD).

You should also clean the filters of your air conditioning units and central heating systems. Avoid air filters that can obstruct the airflow to the unit. 

Limit the amount of pollen that gets to your home

On a beautiful spring day, it can be tempting to open the windows to let clean air in. But the challenge is that the clean air can let pollen in.

A surefire way to reduce allergy symptoms is to get rid of the pollen that gets to your home. If you can, you should close the windows.

Keep your mattress clean

To keep mold at bay, you should maintain the humidity level between 45-50%. Again, you should not allow the level to fall below 35%.

Since much of the air travel to the crawl areas, the humidity level is higher. If the humidity level is beyond 50%, the air that travels in the rooms may have dust mites and mold. Therefore, you should ensure these vulnerable spaces have clean air circulation.

Use a vacuum cleaner

Vacuuming is an effective way of keeping the floor and carpets free from allergens. You should invest in a vacuum cleaner that contains highly efficient HEPA filters because they are superior at pulling the dust particles.

Dust regularly

Use hypoallergenic bedding

Let’s face it: we spend a third of our lives in bed. Your pillows and sheets can make a cozy home for dust mites.

To ensure your bed is an allergy-free zone, you should buy hypoallergenic bedding – they provide an effective barrier against allergens.

The best beddings will withstand frequent wash cycles without wear. They are also good for people with sensitive skin.

The varying humidity and temperature in your home can trigger allergy symptoms. Make sure you follow the above tips to make the allergy season more bearable.
